Glee Ann and Andrea Harne will exhibit floral and seascape oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings.  Additionally, Andrea will create caricatures of fairgoers, $15 per person in color, $10 per person in black and white.  Plan on 5 - 8 minutes per person to get your River Artsfest souvenir caricature created!

A Gift From God

Young Kaylin states that she is blessed to create for you handmade jewelry, lanyards, sculpey-decorated frames and more.  Proceeds from all sales support a variety of charitable ventures, such as sponsoring children through World Vision.

African Art and More

La Conte Saunders displays handcrafted art from the continent of Africa:  baskets, soaps, stones, masks, and more from Cameroon , Nigeria , Zambia , Egypt , etc.

Terri Alo

Terri Alo's pottery explores functionality in not only the traditional sense, but in the creative sense as well.  Ranging from traditional bowls and plates to original wall hangings and stylish lamps, Terri’s pottery entices all types of art patrons.  Patrons are welcome to special order in specific colors or convey their own unique ideas that Terri can recreate in clay.

Ballet Arts Academy

The Ballet Arts Academy at Old Waldorf School will have an informational booth on the school, its philosophy, and class offerings, as well as photos from throughout the Academy's short, but successful history.  In honor of Charles County's 350th Anniversary, students of the Academy will perform country dances from 1658-2008, accompanied by the Capital Quicksteps, from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. 

Patricia Valdes Biles

Patricia Biles is a visual artist of 2-D works.  Her father, now deceased, was a commercial artist.  “Doing art makes me feel like he is still here with us.”  Patricia prefers oil on canvas, but she also does acrylics and fabric paints.  She likes landscapes, wildlife, and pets.  She can often be seen riding her bicycle, walking of hiking the woods and Route 210 looking for ideas and inspiration of just enjoying the day!  She is excited to meet this year’s River Artsfest patrons.  “It just gets better every year.  Thank you CCAA and sponsors.”

Susan Boarman

Susan Boarman uses black and white in many of her pencil drawings to create a sense of the past.  In other drawings she prefers rich natural colors to capture the beauty of today's Southern Maryland landscape or the sun reflecting through the clouds of the Potomac River .  All of Susan’s drawings are of real places in Southern Maryland . Most are visible along the back roads.  At River Artsfest, Susan will have original pencil drawings, professionally reproduced prints, framed work, and notecards for sale. 

Carryalls by Carolyn

Carolyn Chlosta creates handmade carryalls (tote bags, purses, laptop computer bags, and knitting bags) principally for women. The carryalls use the finest fabric and are available in varying sizes, colors and material patterns. These carryalls make great gifts, and also can serve as shopping bags in lieu of the standard grocery store plastic bags. The uniqueness of these carryalls make them reversible for added use. Custom orders to suit individual tastes are also available.

Charles County Arts Alliance

The Charles County Arts Alliance is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which strives to stimulate,  promote, encourage and provide recognition of the arts and the creative spirit.  Founded in 1987, the CCAA promotes ALL the arts in Charles County:  music, visual arts, drama, dance, and literature.  The CCAA is the coordinator of River Artsfest.  Learn more about the CCAA under the Silent Auction tent, where River Artsfest t-shirts will also be on sale.

Charles County Genealogical Society

The Charles County Genealogical Society will be available at River Artsfest to show a CD about the society and its work, and to discuss the same with interested citizens

Chartistry

Artist Char Lancaster Wiseman creates unique, one-of-a-kind art jewelry, handmade in sterling silver with semi-precious stones.  She also works with dichroic glass in her jewelry and other art objects like tiles and functional pieces.

The Black Box Theatre has been a forum for the grassroots development of artistic expression in Charles County and the surrounding areas for more than three years.  The venue and its programs offer aspiring professional artists and arts organizations a bridge to the established cultural community of the Greater Washington Metropolitan area.  The Black Box Theatre in the Indian Head Center for the Arts is one essential way in which the Town of Indian Head contributes to the cultural and educational enhancement for all of Southern Maryland .

The Corner Studio is a private studio located in La Plata , MD that is open to local artists for classes and workshops organized through the Charles County Arts Alliance. At least once a week the Corner Studio has “Open Studio” time for local artists. An ongoing project at the studio is the painting of the carousel horses for the Southern Maryland Carousel Group, Inc.  

Corner Studio Artworks is a company through which the artwork created in the Corner Studio is sold in the form of Giclee Prints and on Fine Art Note Cards. Other personalized photo and printing services are also available. Its new website (www.cornerstudioartworks.com) showcases the artists, classes, and events of the Corner Studio and provides a web presence for other local artists and related groups. At River Artsfest, original artworks, prints, and notecards by Corner Studio artists will be available for sale.

Janet Davis is a glass and jewelry artist.  She handcrafts designer jewelry using quality jewelry findings and gemstone quality beads.  She also creates fused glass jewelry and fused glass plates and vases.  A teacher of jewelry-making, Janet will conduct demonstrations at River Artsfest on how she makes wire-wrapped rings.

Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Society, Inc. 

The Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Society is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the historic Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Home (museum with exhibit building, gift shop and farm museum).  The Society encourages research into the role that this historic site played at the time of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, as this is the home of the famous Dr. Samuel A. Mudd who doctored John Wilkes Booth.

Farragut Films is a non-profit film company in the business of making fan films of the Star Trek genre.   Starship Farragut is based on the crew of the U.S.S. Farragut, a Constitution Class Starship (NCC-1647) commanded by Captain John T. Carter, and takes place during the time of legendary Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise (NCC-1701).  At River Artsfest 2008, the crew intends to give away DVDs and brochures, while having a continuous loop feed of its first two episodes showing for the public’s enjoyment.  A shuttle craft will also be on display.

FrantiQ, LLC

Fran Panzo and Karen Groething are fused glass artists.  They turn everyday objects into art:  spoon rests to plates, can openers to clocks --- hand-worked, kiln-formed magic!

Gary and Kitty Frick

Gary Frick has worked in stained glass for over 25 years.  He has sold and displayed his work at various shows and festivals during that time.  Over the past 5 years, Gary has experimented in the fusing of glass into various forms.

Kitty Frick has woven baskets for 13 years.  She has attended many basket conferences in North Carolina , Kentucky , Tennessee , West Virginia , and Delaware where she has learned how baskets were made in those areas of the United States .  She has recently crafted handmade bases from pottery with unique designs to be used in the weaving of her baskets.

 At River Artsfest the Humane Society of Charles County will offer answers to your animal questions; the TWLA group will present their endangered wildlife projects; and a dog trainer will be available to help you with your pet problems!

Wanda Hunter makes detailed birdhouses that are designed to attract birds and look great in the yard as a form of yard art.  Each house is unique in style, including Victorian, bungalows, row houses, antique barns & shops, schools, and more.  Each birdhouse sits on a platform designed to resemble a yard and may contain any of the following items:  fences, tiny Adirondack chairs and tables, ceramic birdbaths or fountains, miniature topiaries, dogs, trees, shrubs, and a variety of other items.  Each house is truly a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Mary Kercher of MK Designs features handmade beaded and ribbon jewelry, bookmarks, watercolor paintings (originals and prints), with some in small affordable sizes.

Nancy Owens

Nancy Owens creates oil and acrylic paintings of landscapes, flowers, birds, and still life.  She paints on many different surfaces such as canvas, masonite, wooden basket lids, and other wooden and metal items and small furniture.   In recent years she has painted Christmas ornaments that were displayed on the White House and Library of Congress Christmas trees.  Her work has won many prizes at the Charles County Fair, including “Best of Show.”

Mary Sokol paints in oil and often uses an original technique she developed to paint on metal.  The shine from the metal comes through the oil and causes these paintings to glisten in the light.  Scenes are of birds, animals, nature and foreign countries which she has visited.  She specializes in painting horses.  Her latest paintings are of bright collage colors of mixed media in non-representational work.

Southern Maryland Audubon Society

 

The Southern Maryland Audubon Society was formed in 1971 as the first Maryland chapter of the National Audubon Society.  It is the largest group in Southern Maryland involved in nature studies and conservation issues.  It conducts meetings and field trips from September to June which are open to the public.
