or visit www.ptplayers.com

DRAMA / MYSTERY: Los Angeles, 1943. A bloodthirsty killer is stalking the beautiful starlets of Tinseltown. Fearing her life is in danger, Lucy Murray goes to the one man she knows can crack the case, a hard-boiled private eye names Abe Van Helsing. But who is the mysterious Count Dracula who has suddenly appeared and what are his ties to the detective? This adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic novel is a film noir retelling of the legend of Dracula, a dark romance mixed with comic relief and gruesome death. It is an autumn treat for those who love Halloween.

Wondering if the show is appropriate for you or your child?

Celebrate     350!

Presented by

October 18, 2008

Christ Church

La Plata , MD

Beginning at 1 p.m.

On Saturday October 18, 2008 , the 350th Anniversary of the founding of Charles County will be celebrated through music!   The afternoon of music will be held at Christ Church, next to the Charles County Courthouse in La Plata.
The Maryland State Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard will open the festivities at 1 p.m. by presenting the Colors with fife and drum, as well as fixed-bayonet musketry! An English hand bell choir of fourteen young people will then play patriotic music arranged for them by Judy Dalton, who is the conductor of the group as well as the  organizer of this musical celebration.

At 2:15 and again at 3:15, students of MTACC teachers will perform on the harpsichord, the piano, and the pipe organ.  Flute students, a prize-winning violin student and the Charles County Youth Orchestra will perform at 4:30.  Distinguished flutist Lucy Snell will perform Vivaldi's "Goldfinch Concerto" with the orchestra, along with Lori Dean at the hapsichord. The opportunity for students to perform on the harpsichord, the small keyboard instrument in homes 350 years ago, is especially anticipated by teachers and students alike.

Each recital group and its audience also will be treated to a reception – indoors if necessary, but on the church lawn if the weather is good! St. Mary’s County author Linda Davis Reno will be present throughout the afternoon with her carefully researched book, The Maryland 400 at the Battle of Long Island. This new book explains the vital role of the local troops in winning the first major battle of the American Revolution in August of 1776. Soldiers trained by General Smallwood of Charles County bravely held their position while other colonial troops were permitted to escape, making it possible for the Revolution to continue.

Founded in 1987 by six local teachers, MTACC has grown since then and has annually sought venues and activities to enrich the musical life of Charles County . As a group, the MTACC is a member of the Charles County Arts Alliance.  Working also in conjunction with teachers in neighboring counties, members are able to challenge their students and themselves to achieve higher goals than would be possible by working independently.

The Music Teachers Association of Charles County is pleased to offer this tribute to our county through an afternoon of music by our young people, who are the next generation of recipients of the heritage of freedom won and maintained so dearly.

Korean Cultural Arts Festival held in Virginia, but organized in part by the Korean American Association of Southern Maryland

Special FREE Admission to Educators... read more

The event will celebrate 630 years of Korean traditional music. The era began with the appearance of the most renowned cultivator and prolific composer in Korea’s long history of music. Nangye Park Yeon, during the reign of the Korean King Sejong, was first to organize and catalog Korean music. Those acts have allowed his musical treasures to exist in their pure unabridged form for more than six centuries. Nangye’s system enables Korea to appoint modern day masters who have the state directed responsibility to maintain historical precision for modern day performances. We are honored to present conductor Bum Joo Shon and the 50 piece Nan-gye Gugak Orchestra who will perform the music of Nangye Park Yeon just as it was heard almost 600 years ago. This tribute to Nangye, rarely performed and for the first time ever in the United States, is the result of extraordinary cooperation between Maryland and the Government and arts community of Korea. The Minister of Korean Tourism, The Governor of Korea’s North Chungcheong Province, and the Mayor of Yeongdong-gun have all cooperated to allow this once in a lifetime event to be brought to our area. The Mayor of Yeongdong in Korea, where Nangye was born, will accompany the Nan-gye Gugak Orchestra based in Nangye’s home town and personally present the orchestra to the United States. This is indeed an historic event. (Click on image at left for a downloadable flyer)

Major Gifts – Fearlessly Ensure Your Organization’s Future

NEW DATE and TIME

Henry D. “Hank” Lewis, President, Development Consultant Associates

Is your organization overly dependent on just a few funding sources? Do you want to continue living with that risk? To ensure your organization’s future cash flow, a major gifts program is a necessity. Nationally, more than 60 percent of ongoing fundraising goals and more than 90 percent of capital campaign goals are met with major gifts. These gifts never come as a surprise. They take work. Almost every major gift is a result of months (if not years) of building relationships with each potential donor – getting that person to the point where they’re ready to say, “Yes.” This class shows you what you need to do to create/maintain/expand a major gifts program and create the donor base needed to ensure the success of a capital campaign.

The Mattawoman Creek Art Center Presents

Acrylic Abstractions: Color and Line

Paintings by Charles Reiher

First Place Winner of the 2007 Juried Show

October 3 - November 2, 2008

Friday, Saturday & Sunday

11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Reception:  Sunday October 5, 2008

1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This exhibit presents a series of experiments in painting abstract acrylics that emphasize color and line, and incorporate texture in a variety of ways.

Poured paint, often combined with ink, create fields of color and merged colors; repeated applications lend a sense of depth to the paintings.  The different patterns of paint flow on watercolor paper, plastic papers, and canvas, provide variations in the results.

Texture is introduced through the use of thick paint, gesso, molding paste, sand, pieces of paper and fabric, plastic, drizzled liquid acrylic, and even canvases mounted on top of canvas.

Motion and flow come from the use of many curved lines and drizzles of paint.

These are not quiet works.  They reflect the energy and hectic pace of 21st century life, the fun I have in creating them, and the music -- from classical and jazz to country and Brazilian pop --  that I listen to while painting.

Charlie Reiher has lived in Lanham , MD for 40 years.  He has a studio at Passageways Artist Studios in Riverdale , MD and is a member of the Hyattsville Community Arts Alliance, the Laurel Art Guild, and the Mattawoman Creek Art Center .  Many of his images can be seen at www.PassagewaysStudio.com and at www.CharlesReiher.com.

MCAC is located in Smallwood State Park in Marbury, MD, 25 miles South of Washington, D.C. on Route 224 in Charles County.  Park fee is waived for MCAC visitors
