The Charles County Arts Alliance is pleased to announce our 24th annual ArtsFest, to be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, on the beautiful grounds of the La Plata Town Hall, in La Plata, Maryland.  ArtsFest is the largest arts festival in Charles County, and one of the largest in Southern Maryland.  This is our fifth year to present the festival in partnership with the Town of La Plata.

ArtsFest is our annual outdoor celebration of all the arts and artists – visual, literary and performing.  It is our “free gift” to the citizens of Charles County and Southern Maryland, and there is no charge for the public to attend.  It is a family-friendly, wonderful way to kick off the summer season!  Great food and Southern Maryland specialties will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Visual and literary artists of all media are invited to display and sell their works. In addition, nonprofit arts organizations are invited as exhibitors to display information and encourage participation in their performing, visual and literary arts activities. Also invited as nonprofit exhibitors are cultural, historical, heritage and environmental organizations.

Our audience attendance at ArtsFest averages 2000 people each year.  At last year’s ArtsFest, we presented nonstop music and dance performances on two stages, 50 artists and exhibitors on display, local authors autographing their books, and a Kid’s Art Tent with a wide variety of hands-on creative projects.  This year’s ArtsFest promises to be even bigger and better than last year!

WELCOME

Welcome to the website of the Charles County Arts Alliance!  We are glad you’re here, and we hope you find our site attractive, inviting, interesting, informative and easy to navigate.  We welcome your feedback – just click on the “contact us” button above, and send us your thoughts! The Charles County Arts Alliance was founded in 1987 as an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting ALL the arts in Charles County:
  • Music
  • Visual Art
  • Drama
  • Dance
  • Literature

We are a membership organization with currently over 160 members, including 20 arts organizations.  We invite you to become a member – all are welcome!  The Charles County Arts Alliance is an IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization and as such, all contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

We are the designated arts council of Charles County, and serve as the “arts umbrella” organization for our arts community:  arts organizations, arts educators, individual artists, and patrons of the arts.  Over the past 28 years, we have awarded over $650,000 in grant funding to deserving nonprofit organizations and the schools to support their cultural programs, projects and performances.  For the past 24 years, we have sponsored Charles County’s largest annual arts festival, ArtsFest.  We award annual $1000 Arts Scholarships to graduates of our county high schools and the College of Southern Maryland.  We showcase our very talented visual artists in three public gallery venues.  We produce and present many other arts-related public programs, events and activities throughout the year.  We constantly promote upcoming local arts events via our weekly Arts Newsflash blasts, our monthly Arts Insider e-newsletters, press releases, etc.

Please join us as we seek to improve the overall quality of life in Charles County, and implement our long-term strategic plan for the arts, Arts Vision 2020.
